National Young Leaders Day - Brisbane

GOVERNOR-GENERAL David Hurley ( by Jackson)
The Governor-General was the school captain in both Year 6 and Year 12. He has been in the army for forty-two years before he became the Governor for N.S.W. He has been to Buckingham Palace several times and he is an inspirational person teaching me some things about leadership like asking why you want to be a leader is just as important if not more than how to be a leader -that was something he taught me.
Anastasia Woolmer - Memory Champion (by Ever)
Anastasia Woolmer was one of the 6 inspiring speakers at THE NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY. She is to this day the world champion of memory training. This is when someone says out numbers and you have to remember as many as you can and resay them, which she did and her world record is 456 numbers. She showed leadership when she had to push so hard and study for hours and hours a day just to learn so that she could get a good mark and prove to herself that she could be smart and now she has the best memory in Australia.
Darius Boyd (by Banjo)
Darius Boyd is a retired NRL player that debuted for the Broncos in 2006 winning a premiership before moving to Knights and Dragons, and later returning to captain the Broncos in 2017. He has overcome a lot of hardship in his life. He never met his dad, his uncle and grandfather died when he was young and at the age of 15, his mother left to get mental help. Five years ago Darius did the same thing. He told us the 3 things he used to get through dark times were gratitude, empathy and having a good support network which in his case was his grandma and friends.
Lachie Smart (by Ruby)
Lachie Smart flew around the world when he was 16 he planned it at 15 he is the youngest person to ever fly around the world solo! He tried and tried and he kept persevering. He wanted to 'give up' many times but his dad said to give it one more month so he did. What I learnt about Lachie was that all you need to do is keep persevering and as a leader, you have the ability to impact people who are young and old. Also, it's always good to have a backup plan just in case of a setback. There is no positive without having a least one negative- so making errors helps yourself.

CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES
- Students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID 19 are not to attend school. Parents of symptomatic children should provide evidence of a negative result prior to returning to school. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter fro the GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
- We will continue our regular COVID safe practices of student hand sanitising on entry to the school, after mealtimes and during the day.
Week 5 Highlights that we are truly grateful for:
- National Young Leaders Day
- Our students, who work hard to learn and achieve every day!
