RELIGIOUS MATTERS
2nd SUNDAY OF LENT - GOSPEL REFLECTION
Mark 9: 2-10
In this week’s Gospel, we learn about an important experience in the life of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus takes three of his disciples—Peter, James, and John—to a high mountain. While they are there, Elijah and Moses appear with Jesus. According to St Luke, there was a conversation among Jesus, Elijah, and Moses, and this conversation was about what Jesus will accomplish in Jerusalem. Jesus was affirmed by this event and, it was God the Father who offered this affirmation.
During Lent, we try to change our lives for the better, looking for ways in which we can be more faithful to Jesus. But we might also identify those aspects of our lives that we want to affirm and to continue. We may want to identify the good things in our lives, for example, prayer and service to others. When we pray, we could try to identify one thing in our life that we should be affirming during Lent and one thing that God might affirm in our lives.

![]() Then Tropical Cyclone Harold damaged the school and its vegetable garden, amidst the threat of COVID-19. Staff and students rely on the vegetable garden to provide food for their meals. With Caritas Australia’s support, the school installed water tanks, provided cyclone-proof building materials and helped to implement COVID-19 prevention measures. Margret’s school now has enough water for its students and the capacity to cater for more, with plans to boost food security, through increased agricultural production. · Around 60% of people in rural areas in the Solomon Islands don’t have access to piped water, while about 80% don’t have access to latrines or toilets. (UNICEF, 2019) Watch a short film about Margret’s story here. “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.” Please support Project Compassion: lent.caritas.org.au |
