RELIGIOUS MATTERS- Mrs Megan Boyd

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION

The 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Mark 4: 26-34
The reign of God is like a mustard seed.

The Gospel this week focuses on the tiny mustard seed. Though not the smallest of all seeds, it is most likely the smallest that a first-century farmer in Jesus’ part of the world would have sown. Small as the mustard seed is,
it develops into a tree. Though the mustard tree generally averages three metres, it has a wide expanse and provides a nesting place for birds. Just as the tree welcomes the birds, so is God’s kingdom welcoming and open to many.

CELEBRATING FIRST EUCHARIST

Our sacramental preparation students, Zoey Campbell, Sylvie Davis, Sasha Franks, Madison Kirk, Ruby O'Neill, Charlotte Robinson and Seleste Walsh will celebrate their first Holy Communion this weekend, at the parish Mass at the All Saints" Church Woodburn at 5:30 pm. We congratulate them and their families.

During the family sacrament preparation sessions, students have learned that Holy Communion is a very special spiritual food and drink that nourishes us by giving us strength: strength to love God with all our heart and all our might: and the strength to be like Jesus and reach out to others in love.

Please keep our students and their families in your prayers.  All are welcome to this special celebration and are invited to supper which will be shared in the school library after Mass.

The supper will also be an opportunity for our parish family to farewell Father Jim.

MAKING JESUS REAL - (MJR)

At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community and while at home and out in the community

MJR at St Joseph’s Woodburn encourages our students to be WEST people - that is WELCOMING, ENCOURAGING, SAY SORRY when needed and be THANKFUL.
