    Principals Message

    Dear Families,

In the midst of continual information and updates received about COVID 19, we have had the chance to have an amazing week around writing and faith. The Year 4  ACCENDERE Retreat is featured in Mrs Boyd's RE section.

This week all classes were provided with the opportunity to join live author workshops and in the process explore writing skills, through the Littlescribe Mini writing festival. I managed to visit the infant's classes for a couple of the zooms and found that the children were involved,  creative, hardworking and very excited.

Next week the same opportunity will be provided, more directed towards the Primary students' age group,  through the Byron Bay Writers Festival. I look forward to hearing and seeing the impact for our students in relation to their thoughts and attitude about writing.

    Semester 1 Reports

Just a reminder Semester 1 report will be sent home today, Friday (Week 2). This is an adjusted report because of blended learning.

The Parent-Teacher meetings that we normally have at this time of the year, will not be held because of the COVID restrictions.  Please contact your child’s teacher if you require further information at this time.

    Evans and Coraki Counselling service

This week we received a reminder from Catherine Flemming, Child and Family Counsellor| Child and Family Health about the Child and Family Health Service available to children (up to 12 years of age) and their families in the Coraki and Evans Head area.

As 2020 continues to bring challenges of all varieties to many families Catherine thought she would just touch base to remind you all of the service that is available here to children and families. The referral process is simple, families or parents can contact Catherine directly by phoning 66 839 000. She currently works part-time in this role based in Coraki every Wednesday and Friday as well as alternative Thursdays.

Some of the difficulties that she is able to assist families and children with include managing stress and anxiety, family separation, adjustment difficulties, parenting challenges, trauma, social skills and emotional regulation. Parents may also be having difficulties with children not wanting to engage in school at present following a significant period of disruption over the course of this year thus far.

    Important Reminders

    School Photos 2020

School Photos will take place this year on Wednesday 19 August. Photo envelopes have been sent home next week.

    COVID 19 Practices Term 3

    • Non-essential adults will still not be permitted to enter the school grounds. We ask that no parents enter the School past the front office. All inquiries to the front office, please.
    • Pick up and drop off will continue out the front of the school.
    • We will resume our Canteen Week 2 Term 3 if we are able to get parent volunteers to assist.  The Parent helpers will be advised of the mandatory hygiene practices at the front office. PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE ON 66822468 IF YOU ARE ABLE TO GO ON TO THE CANTEEN ROSTER FOR TERM 3.
    • It is paramount in these times, in particular,  that any child who is unwell is kept at home. We appreciate your understanding and consideration for the safety of the other students and the staff.
    • Our bubblers will still not to be used and therefore the children require a water bottle.
    • Our stringent hygiene practices will continue in Term 3 with: the washing of hands regularly; sanitiser after eating, no food or drinks to be shared; coughing and sneezing into elbows, tissues discarded immediately, cleaning of the desks between lunch and recess breaks and extra cleaning of the school by our cleaners.

Sunday Gospel Reading:18th Sunday of Ordinary Time

      Luke 12: 13-21 13: 44- 52 - A person's life does not consist of possessions.

      BEST_RICH_MAN.jpg

Jesus taught his disciples that when they care for the needs of the poor, they are giving them what is theirs.  When we share with others we are not just performing acts of mercy; we are striving for justice in our world. Life should not merely consist of gathering possessions but in sharing what we possess with others. Sharing our gifts, talents and time help to build the kingdom of God’s love.

      ACCENDERE IN-SCHOOL RETREAT

Our Year 4 students took part in an in-school Assendere retreat day on Wednesday.
Accendere means to: ‘switch on’, kindle to catch fire, light to strike, to

      Accendre.png

       produce/spark the flame.

The theme of friendship and the Gospel focus ‘And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.’  John 13: 34-35 and the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke's Gospel featured throughout the retreat.

Students were active in a number of fun and enjoyable activities that gave them the opportunity to reflect upon their faith and the value of friendship. They sang, danced, created wonderful constructions, performed skits, played games, read the scriptures, reflected and prayed. We were very proud of our student's respect, cooperation, positive attitude, and their wonderful sense of humour and fun.
