Week 5 Term 2 2024
Dear Families,
This week as a staff we had the opportunity to attend the 2024 Lismore Staff Proclaim Day at Xavier Catholic College, Skennars Head. Close to a thousand staff members gathered from Catholic Primary and High Schools from Casino, Kyogle, Lismore, South Lismore, Woodburn, Coraki, Alstonville, Ballina and Skennars Head.
Proclaim is a Diocesan event that celebrates faith, learning and community. It is held biannually and has been celebrated for 10 years within the diocese.
The theme of Proclaim this year is 'Hope for the Future'. The day included two key sessions led by Dr Maeve Heaney (Director of the Xavier Centre of Theological Formation at the Australian Catholic University) and Mr Roby Curtis (Director of Emmanuel City Mission Brisbane).
Both speakers were inspirational in their addresses in very different ways. The day finished with a beautiful Mass celebration accompanied by the music and singing from 'Wildfire'. We are extremely grateful for this wonderful Diocesan initiative and opportunity to challenge, deepen, immerse and renew.
KINDERGARTEN 2025
As we move quickly through 2024, it is time to begin kindergarten enrolments for 2025.
Our Kindergarten Information Night will be held on Wednesday 12 June 2024. If you have children ready to begin school next year, or if you know anyone interested in enrolling in Kindergarten (or any other year) in 2025, the Information Evening will be held on Wednesday 12 June at 6 pm.
Our Kindergarten 2025 enrolment campaign has begun. We need your help to spread the word that enrolments are now open for our wonderful school and that our Kindergarten Information Night will be held on Wednesday 12 June 2024. As we move closer to 'going home' to Woodburn, we want to grow our school and share the amazing new spaces. Please spread the word!
Thank you for your ongoing support.

SCHOOL REVIEW
A reminder that we will undergo our School Review in Week 10 of this term. During that week for three days, a Lead Reviewer from ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) and two Principals from schools within our Diocese will visit and review our school around the following nine domains:
- Driving an explicit improvement agenda.
- Analysing and discussing data.
- Promoting a culture of learning.
- Targeting school resources.
- Building an expert teaching team.
- Leading systematic curriculum implementation.
- Differentiating teaching and learning.
- Implementing effective pedagogical practices.
- Building school-community partnerships.
On one of the three days, we will invite parents as a group to talk to the team. The dates for the Review are 2, 3 and 4 July. Please save the date if there is a possibility that you can join us and speak with the Review Team. We appreciate your feedback.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION -The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Gospel Reading: John 20: 19-23
In this week’s Gospel, we hear Jesus give instructions to his disciples to prepare a special meal for the Jewish celebration of Passover. We also listen to some details about the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples; this meal is called the Last Supper. Each time we attend Mass we remember and celebrate that last supper. We believe that the holy sacrament of the Eucharist is a source of spiritual nourishment and is often called the source and summit of the Christian life. We are nourished during the mass and given spiritual food to help us as we journey in faith.St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Vinnies NSW supports tens of thousands of individuals and families each year who are experiencing financial and housing insecurity. Compared to previous years, Vinnies NSW has seen a concerning growth in the number of people seeking assistance through necessity.
This year, the Winter Appeal focuses on the Working Homeless, an emerging group of people who are experiencing housing hardship and disadvantage despite being in employment. Our SRC Fundraiser PYJAMA DAY - (Gold coin donation) Monday 1st July support of the 2024 Vinnies Winter Appeal will help rebuild lives and dismantle the communal constructs that lead to disadvantage in the first place.
FAMILY MATTERS - Finding time to pray
In the rush and hustle of family life, it’s not always easy to set aside times for the practices that help deepen our sense of connection to each other and to God. Prayer is an often overlooked practice of family life but it is one that, from age to age, has proven to be a meaningful and powerful way to strengthen family bonds, foster a sense of unity and love and connected the family to the comfort and strength of God.If you and your family are new to the idea of praying together you may appreciate the following:1. Start Simple: If you're new to the practice of family prayer, start with simplicity. Begin by setting aside a few minutes each day for a brief prayer session.
Encourage each family member to express one thing they are grateful for or one wish they have. This uncomplicated approach lays the foundation for more prayer sessions as your family becomes more comfortable with the practice.
2. Create a Dedicated Space: Designate a specific area in your home as a prayer space. It doesn't need to be elaborate— just a quiet corner where your family can gather without distractions. Decorating it with items that hold spiritual or personal significance can enhance the sense of sacredness and create a special environment for prayer.
3. Find A Good Resource: There are books and apps like Sacred Space or Hallow that take the pressure off busy families by providing a daily guide to many different forms of prayer like Gospel readings, meditations and reflection.
St Joseph's SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
At St Joseph's we encourage our students to look for the goodness in others. Our school Vice Captains-Mission this year Aya Stahl and Cooper Bailey have been given the responsibility of helping to acknowledge students who demonstrate the attitudes and gospel values that show the Spirit of Jesus.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful. This week the Spirit of Jesus Award was presented to Sheree George and Travis Bennett at the school assembly.
