WEEK 9 Term 3 2024
Dear Families,
JOURNEY BACK TO WOODBURN- A DAY OF FAREWELLS.
Today marked a significant chapter in our journey back to Woodburn as we embraced a series of heartfelt "lasts" at our Evans Head site. We marked the day with a beautiful Thanksgiving Liturgy, celebrating the wonderful moments we've shared here since the floods and bidding a warm farewell to this place that has been our home for so long.
Our final Pie Day Friday was a delicious highlight, with scrumptious pies, sausage rolls, and Spinach and Fetta rolls, that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
It was a little emotional as we wrapped up the term ahead of next week’s move. Stage 3 led our last Assembly at Evans, bringing together our community one last time in song and celebration.
It was bittersweet as we said goodbye to Mrs McManus who is leaving us to welcome her new baby. We also took a moment to to bid farewell to Mrs Cronan who will be starting an exciting new role at Xavier Catholic College next term.
As we close this chapter and look forward to our return to Woodburn, let’s cherish the memories we’ve created together. Thank you all for your resilience and support. Here’s to new beginnings!
WEEK 10 - WE'RE MOVING TO WOODBURN
REMINDER
To assist with the transition in Week 10, we will not be running normal classes, but operating on a ‘supervision-only’ basis for children whose parents are unable to make alternative care arrangements, at the Evans Head site. This will allow staff to complete the relocation process while ensuring that our students remain in a safe and supervised environment.
Term 4 will see the school fully operational at Woodburn. Monday 14 October (first day of Term 4) will be a pupil-free day to allow for final modifications with technology and related systems to ensure a smooth beginning for the children.
Classes for all students across K - 6 will resume at St Joseph’s, Woodburn on Tuesday, 15 October.
Thank you, once again, for your continued support and understanding throughout this journey. We can't wait to welcome you back to our home in Woodburn and embark on this new phase together
JUNIOR JOEYS CONTINUES
Our Junior Joeys have completed their first 5 weeks this term, well done Joeys, we've loved having you. There will be a further 3 weeks in Term 4 at Woodburn. It's been a joy to witness them learning about 'big school', mixing with their future classmates and meeting many other students along the way. See you next term!
ST JOSEPH'S WOODBURN WORKING BEE
This a reminder that we have our Woodburn working bee tomorrow Saturday 21 September, 2024 from 9am -12md. Thank you to all who have responded and will be attending.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION-25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading Mark 9:30-37
Jesus calls forward a child and teaches his disciples that to receive a child in Jesus’ name is of great importance
Jesus taught using stories and actions. We might easily fail to understand the significance of this action of Jesus - that is acknowledging children. In first-century Palestine, children were without status or power, possessing no legal rights. In this action, Jesus is teaching his disciples and us that when we serve the least ones among us, we serve Jesus himself. We could ask the question - who are the people without power or status in our society that Jesus is calling us to serve?
Sacrament of Eucharist
Celebrating First Holy Communion - Thank you
Thank you to all who supported The celebration of the Sacrament of Eucharist on Saturday 14th September especially Father Max Gow who presided at the Mass.
The Sacrament was the final sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church family. Katy, Eliana, Indiana, Isabella and Eva understand that upon reception of the sacrament they received spiritual nourishment for their life journey, and that Jesus will be their loving friend while they are on their life-long faith journey.
We thank the mothers, grandmothers and aunty who supported the girls by attending the Sacramental preparation family meetings. We also pray that their preparation time and celebration were filled with blessings and love.
St Joseph's SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
At St Joseph's we remind our students that they are the living disciples of Jesus. We also encourage our students to look for the goodness in others. Our school Vice Captains-Mission this year Aya Stahl and Cooper Bailey have been responsible for helping to acknowledge students who demonstrate the attitudes and gospel values that show the Spirit of Jesus.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful. This week the Spirit of Jesus Award was presented to Jake Cutler and Indiana Stahl at the school assembly.
As I prepare to embark on a new chapter as a first time Mum, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. I have had a wonderful time working here as your assistant principal, and I will cherish the memories I have made here.
To the wonderful students, thank you for your enthusiasm, curiosity, and the joy you bring to our school each day. Watching you grow and learn has been a true privilege, and I am so proud of all your accomplishments.
To the dedicated staff, your passion and commitment to nurturing our students are truly inspiring. You create a welcoming and caring environment that makes our school feel like a second home. I have learned so much from each of you, and I will carry those lessons with me always.
To our supportive parents, your involvement and encouragement have made a world of difference. Thank you for being such a vital part of our community. Your partnership helps us create the best possible experience for our students, and I deeply appreciate all that you do.
As I say goodbye, I want to wish you all the best in the coming years. I am excited for what the future holds for each of you, and I hope our paths cross again soon.
With warmest regards and gratitude,
Sarah McManus

FAMILY CONNECT IN ACTION
Hello there St Joseph’s Woodburn family, Cassie here from the Family Connect in School program. I'd like to introduce “Family Connect in Action’, a new addition to the school’s fortnightly newsletter. Each edition will give you links to information and resources to help you on your parenting journey.
My first edition is to let families know about the school Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) which can provide:
Free internet for eligible families
The Australian Government has introduced the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) to provide free internet access to eligible families. The SSBI provides internet access to up to 30,000 families with school-aged children who are currently unconnected. The free internet access will be provided until 31 December 2025.
Am I eligible?
Eligible families:
- have a child living at home enrolled in K-12 at a NSW school
- have not had an active National Broadband Network (NBN) internet service for the previous 14 days. Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility.
- reside in a premise that can access a standard NBN service
- will undergo a suitability assessment conducted by the National Referral Centre (NRC). This is just a phone call or online application.
If you require any further information or assistance with an application, contact Cassie from the Family Connect in School program at 0427620667 or contact the National Referral Centre – run by Anglicare Victoria – on 1800 954 610 (Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm AEDT), or visit: https://www.anglicarevic.org.au/student-internet/
