Week 1 Term 2 - 2021
Dear Families
Welcome to Term 2. We have had a wonderful week to start to the Term.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2021
Next week our school will join with more than 620 Catholic schools across NSW and the ACT to celebrate the annual Catholic Schools Week (CSW) from 24-30 April 2021.
Catholic Schools Week is a time to celebrate our shared faith, educational excellence and the importance of every student. Catholic Schools offer an educational foundation for living life to the full through the development of the student's intellectual, physical, moral and emotional growth.
This year coincides with the celebration of 200 years of Catholic Education with the theme of 'Faith in the Future'.
We are extremely proud of the role our school plays in partnership with our parish in maintaining the rich heritage that is Catholic Education in our community. This week provides us with an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the excellent education we offer to all of the students in our school.
Our school will celebrate Catholic Schools Week and 200 Years of Catholic Education throughout the week in the various ways listed below. Families are welcome to join us on Thursday morning 29 April 2021 from 9.45 am for a small assembly, 'How well do you know St Joseph's?' Scavenger Hunt and BYO lunch with the students.

We are so excited that the St Joseph's Community Fair and Fireworks is back and will now be held on Friday 14 May 2021. We are sending home paper copies today of, the flyer about the Fair, the raffle prizes and a new volunteer sheet for the changed date. As noted on the volunteer sheet please text Tracey on the number provided if you are able to assist. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS EVENT A SUCCESS.
The proceeds of the Fair this year will go towards updating the furniture for the Stage 2 classroom. We are working to get contemporary throughout the school to offer students different ways to do their learning.
MOTHER'S DAY WEEK 3 (SUNDAY MAY 9)
We are also organising a Mothers Day Breakfast for Friday 7 May, followed by a Liturgy in the Library. Final details will be sent out next week. Dads you will be asked to help out with the breakfast, if available.
ANZAC DAY 25 APRIL 2021
that will be the case again this year.
I ask that you give careful consideration to your child's participation in this very special celebration and I urge as many students as possible to represent St Joseph's
in these community events. The RSL Club has asked that we lead the National
Anthem at both of these services. Our School Leaders have been asked to speak at both services.
Dawn Service: Line up at 5.10 am outside the library at Evans Head. The march begins at approximately 5.20 am. Full school uniform (minus hat) to be worn.
Woodburn March: Please meet our school group at 9.45 am at the Post Office. The march begins at 10am. Full school uniform and hat please. (This ceremony is run by Woodburn Chamber of Commerce this year)
CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES
- Students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID 19 are not to attend school. Parents of symptomatic children should provide evidence of a negative result prior to returning to school. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from the GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
- We will continue our regular COVID safe practices of student's hand sanitising on entry to the classrooms and after mealtimes and during the day.
WEEK 1 HIGHLIGHTS THAT WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR
- Being back at school with each other.
- The children returned to school, happy and ready to learn and share stories of their holidays.
- Our Community Fair and Fireworks is back on!
- Our students and their amazing efforts in the Cross Country.
- Gahgun Sports House 2021 Cross Country CHAMPIONS
- OUR ANZACS!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Regards
SUNDAY MASS - GOSPEL REFLECTION
Gospel Reading
John 10:11-18
Jesus says that he is the good shepherd who knows his sheep.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus uses the example of a shepherd to demonstrate the kind of service his followers should follow. He used this example because it was familiar to his listeners. Shepherds were known for their care and protection.
Whenever we serve others in ways that put their needs before our own, we are following the example that Jesus gave us. We are living disciples of Jesus when we unconditionally love and serve others.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2020 -
Theme: Faith in the Future
Celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education
In 2021 Catholic education celebrates the 200th anniversary in Australia. Today there are 1751 Catholic Schools educating 768,00o students. Australian Catholic Schools have a long and proud tradition of delivering high quality, faith-based education.
At St Joseph's we are proud of our history and the contribution past priests and Sisters of St Joseph have made to our community.
Our students will celebrate Catholic Schools Week next week by being involved in a variety of activities that acknowledge the gospel values that are permeated throughout the school.
Our students have enjoyed learning the following National 200 Years Song written by Father Rob Galea. The song will feature in our morning assemblies next week and sung during our celebration on Friday.
FAITH IN OUR FUTURE NATIONAL SONG
200 reasons to sing
In this Great South Land as one heart we’ll bring
Inspired by all we have learned
We journey together
Turning our hearts and our minds
To Christ who has taught us to love now
Renewed by the Spirit we’ll go
We’re learning together
We will live, love, reach out to the world
Bringing joy, hope and
peace in God’s Name
As your people, We have faith,
Faith in the Future
MAKING JESUS REAL - (MJR)
At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community and while at home and out in the community
