    Principals Message

    Dear Families

    TY_for_your_support.jpg

I want to pass on my thanks to you for the way that you have responded to the snap lockdown. Your patience, understanding and efforts under the current circumstances are much appreciated.

As noted in the last few newsletters we have been working to ensure that we could manage a lockdown should one happen. I particularly want to congratulate our staff who with very short notice prepared the learning packs and learning platforms to ensure that blended learning started on Wednesday.

A reminder that families who are essential workers (that is that they are unable to work from home) can send their children to school. Any family who considers they may have a vulnerable child needs to contact the school to organise their school attendance, please.

As staff are abiding with the instructions to also obey the work from home ruling, there will only be limited staff at school until next Tuesday, however, they can be reached through email (in school hours).

A big congratulations to our students in the way they have adapted to the change to blended learning very quickly and enthusiastically. I am trying to get around to most of the Zooms and am in contact with the teachers about student engagement in their learning. I love that in one Zoom, garden gloves were being used by a teacher at home to get the students to count by 5's. Then students were questioned and counting the arrays around the farm.  In another, students were playing a memory game with a teacher working from home with all sorts of household items. The LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention) small group Zooms have been an absolute joy to witness highlighting the continued learning and effort of our students.  The learning, ingenuity and student excitement and enthusiasm in the Zooms are fantastic.

It is important that despite the changes the children continue to be engaged with their learning. Please don't hesitate to contact the school if you have any concerns or issues.

Below is a copy of the Zoom timetable for the current lockdown.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION The Feast of the Assumption
Gospel Reading:  Luke 1:39-56 Mary greets Elizabeth and sings God's praise

This week, we are celebrating a holy day, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day we remember that God took Mary to heaven, body and soul. we also listen to Mary's song of praise to God, the Magnificat. In her song, Mary praises God for all the wonderful things he has done for her and for her people.

      Visitation.PNG
The Assumption is a powerful celebration of Christian hope. We are reminded of our humanity, and how Mary as the first disciple of Jesus, walks with and before us, in our own journey towards true Christian discipleship.
Mary had enduring faith, trust and hope in God. She showed humility, unquestionable selflessness and compassion when she visited her pregnant cousin Elizabeth. Let her actions be an example to us all.

      Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

CONGRATULATIONS  - A huge thank you to our school community and our Mini Vinnies for assisting in the preparation of 45 Comfort packs for the needy in our community.

Mr Paul Muldoon from the Evans Head St Vincent de Paul Society was most appreciative of our generosity and support. He assured us that all the packs will be given to people who are struggling and in need of a dose of kindness from others. Congratulations to Charlotte Kinsella and Lean Sulit our Mini Vinnies Presidents for their selfless efforts in ensuring the success of our initiative.

At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community and while at home and out in the community

MJR at St Joseph’s Woodburn encourages our students to be WEST people - that is WELCOMING, ENCOURAGING, SAY SORRY when needed and be THANKFUL.
