     JUNIOR JOEYS CONTINUES....

Our Junior Joeys 2021 Program continues for the next 2 Wednesdays. It is wonderful to continue to get to know the 2022 Kindergarten children. This week they learned a little bit more about the school they will begin attending next year. Along the way, whilst following in the footsteps of the book 'Where is the Green Sheep?' (Mem Fox), they met and chatted to Gayl, the Office Manager, Mrs Walsh, the Counsellor, Mrs Chapman,  the Student Support Officer and Ms Wilkins the Principal. We look forward to getting to know them even more over the coming weeks.

    BOOK FAIR

We started the Book Fair last Tuesday, with tremendous excitement, and the childrens' initial Wish List visit.  That excitement has continued every day since with many children visiting and revisiting the Fair in the Library. A big thank you to our parents, for your support of the Book Fair.  The Fair will continue until next Wednesday.

All families will be sent an email with a link showing the books that we have available at the Book Fair with their prices.  The students took home a wishlist with an online payment option on the back. They can also bring cash into the school or you can pay via credit card over the phone. Please contact the school if you have any questions. Thank you for your flexibility.

    BOOK PARADE

We celebrated one of our best Book Character Parades ever today. It was amazing to see the efforts the children (their parents) had gone to represent their favourite book characters. Sadly we were unable to invite our parents this time but we have plenty of photos to share with you. We'll do it all again next year, hopefully with our parents here to join in the fun. Thank you for all that you did to make it a special day!

    ACCEPTABLE STUDENT HAIRSTYLES

As mentioned in the last couple of Newsletters, we are focussing on lifting the standard of students being in the correct uniform as stated in our Parent Handbook- that is the expectations for students attending St Joseph's.
This week I am asking parents to particularly note the expectations about hairstyles.
Hairstyles must be appropriate with no extremes in cut, style or colour.
We are noticing that a few of the boys new hairstyles are not in keeping with our policy. Also, the rule of the student's hair needing to be tied up if it is shoulder length applies to the boys as well as the girls. Thank you for adhering to the School's expectations.

    COVID 19

    The latest information:
At this stage, we continue on  Level 3 restrictions. Under these restrictions, the wearing of masks is recommended for primary students. Unfortunately, under Level 3 restrictions, parents are still unable to be onsite.  The canteen will be open on Monday and Wednesday if we have volunteers. The last information received was that Level 3 restrictions in schools will continue until 1 December. We will let you know if this changes sooner.

I ask you to keep in your thoughts and prayers those who may be unwell at this time and all involved in responding to the COVID-19 situation. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we navigate this evolving situation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus restores sight to the blind man, Bartimaeus

Best_Bartimaeus.JPGA blind man called Bartimaeus didn’t stop asking Jesus for help because he had faith in Jesus. Jesus told Bartimaeus that his faith had saved him.

God wants us to have so much faith in him that we do not let anyone else stop us from praying or acting in a Christian manner. We can pray for God’s help whenever we need to and as many times as we need to. God is always with us. He loves us, and he wants to help us make good and loving decisions throughout our lives.

      CATHOLIC MISSION 2021

      OCTOBER IS CATHOLIC MISSION MONTH

Our Catholic Mission Fundraiser:  Socktober: Thursday 28th October.

This year the Mini Vinnies are coordinating the:

      Catholic_Mission_2021.JPG     The Great Soccer Challenge:
            Teachers versus Students.

This exciting day will be a  Casual Day, and we ask for a Gold Coin Donation.

Our Burbi, Guruman and Gaghan Sports Captains have selected a team of 10 players to represent their colour house to play against the teacher's team.

This year, students across Australia because of the efforts of the Catholic Mission will learn about the missionary work of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Thailand who, through their Kindergarten Centre, are bringing about generational change to some of the poorest communities in Bangkok.

On Thursday 28th October students will be able to wear the colours of their favourite sports team or colour house team colours.

THE SPIRIT OF JESUS  - MAKING JESUS REAL  (MJR)

      "Live Jesus in our Hearts"

At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community, while at home and out in the wider community.

      MJR.PNG
Jesus' message is just as important today as it was 2000 years ago. The Spirit of Jesus is something that we can feel in our hearts and see through other people. Today, the spirit of Jesus is in the everyday positive things that we see and hear people do and say.
Jesus taught us to care for others who have less than we do. We can do this through prayer and by also helping charities such as Catholic Mission.

MJR at St Joseph’s Woodburn encourages our students to be WEST people - that is WELCOMING, ENCOURAGING, SAY SORRY when needed and be THANKFUL. If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming cheerful, giving, forgiving, encouraging, cheerful, friendly and thankful.
