Week 4 Term 4
Dear Families,
What an amazing week this has been. This year, Book Week has been one of our best celebrations yet. We were sad not to be able to share it with you in person but we have worked to involve you as much as possible, with voting, photos and videos. We started on Monday with the Book Fair and an amazing Library display of our very talented students art pieces, portraits and creations. Wednesday we were treated with some very creative and elaborate wild rumpuses. Thursday was the magical monologue presentations and today we topped it off with our bright, colourful and very imaginative book character parade. Thank you, parents, for your support of the Book Fair and encouraging the children to be a part of all that is on offer.
A very big thank you to Mrs Lowrey, Mrs Roxburgh and Mrs Reese for you enormous efforts with the children and for organising our 2 weeks of Book Week and NAIDOC Week. Special thanks also go to Mr Sandral, Mrs Wilde and Mrs Greg Staadar for their technical assistance to enable us to share the week with you and to Mrs Michelle Eyre for all of her work organising the Book Fair.
Junior Joeys continue...
Week 4 Highlights that we are truly grateful for:
- Book Week and Book Fair.
- Wild Rumpuses, Monologues and the Book Character parade.
- Our extremely talented students.
- Our students for having a go.
- Mrs Lowrey and Mrs Roxburgh and Mrs Eyre.
- Our Junior Joeys.
- The ongoing support of our parents.
COVID 19 Practices Term 4
- Staff and students exhibiting even mild COVID-19 symptoms are to be sent home and required to produce proof of a negative COVID-19 test before returning to school.
- Non-essential adults are not be permitted to enter the school grounds. We ask that no parents enter the school past the front office. All inquiries to the front office, please.
- Pick up and drop off will continue out the front of the school.
- Canteen for lunches only is continued to be offered if we are able to get parent volunteers to assist.
- It is paramount in these times, in particular, that any child who is unwell is kept at home. We appreciate your understanding and consideration for the safety of the other students and the staff.
- Our bubblers will still not to be used and therefore the children require a water bottle.
- Our stringent hygiene practices for our new normal continue with: the washing of hands regularly; sanitiser after eating, no food or drinks to be shared; coughing and sneezing into elbows, tissues discarded immediately, cleaning of the desks between lunch and recess breaks and extra cleaning of the school by our cleaners.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Regards
This Sunday's Gospel Reading:
Matthew 25:1-13
Jesus is teaching his disciples the importance of being prepared to receive the Kingdom of Heaven.
In this week’s Gospel Jesus wants his disciples to understand that the exact day and time of the coming of the Kingdom cannot be predicted. He teaches the disciples that they must remain vigilant so that they will not be caught unprepared.
Saint John of the Cross has said,
“In the evening of our life we will be judged on LOVE” So we must remember it is important to love, love others, love God, and be loving even when confronted by difficult situations. A life lived based on love is a life worth living.
SOCIAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE CATHOLIC MISSION FUNDRAISER
ROCKTOBER SOCKTOBER DANCE PARTY
Thank you for your generous support!
We thank our students and teachers for wearing colourful socks in a creative way - we saw socks in hair, on arms, around the waist, and in every possible way that you could think of. Also, thank you for your coin donations.
We are very happy to share that we have raised $151.
The money donated for our ROCKTOBER SOCKTOBER DANCE PARTY fundraiser will be given to Catholic Mission, to support the Arrupe Centre, in Cambodia, which strives to show the love of God through caring for and empowering those in need.
Each classroom has a mission box and all money donated from now until December will also be sent to the Children's Catholic Mission appeal.

Strategies For Taming Teasing
This is our teasing tip for the week. This was shared with the children at assembly this morning.
Just a reminder about this great podcast by Australian parenting author, educator and speaker, Maggie Dent.
I highly recommend it. There are 3 series available at the moment with lots of great topics for all parents.
Each week in the newsletter, for the rest of the term, I will include a different strategy for taming teasing that you can discuss with your child(ren). Learning how to tackle teasing, without the assistance of an adult is so empowering for them. Young children who learn these coping skills at an early age may be better prepared for more significant social challenges and conflicts in their preteen and teen years.
Richmond Zone Summer Sports Trials
School Swimming Carnival
Our school swimming has been booked for the 4 December at the Evans Head Aquatic Centre. Unfortunately, this will be held without spectators this year. More information will be issued closer to the carnival.
School Water Awareness Program
We are utilising the Woodburn Pool for our water awareness program this year. The students will participate in a Water Awareness Swimming Program at the Woodburn Pool for 3 consecutive weeks concluding next Tuesday the 10th November. This program develops the children's water awareness strategies which are aligned with the PDHPE syllabus.
BOOK WEEK and NAIDOC WEEK
Last week all families were sent an email with a link showing the books that we have available at the Book Fair with their prices.
Students took home a wishlist with an online payment option on the back this week. They can also bring cash into the school or you can pay via credit card over the phone.
Please contact the school if you have any questions. Thank you for your flexibility.
The Book Fair will be available until Wednesday 11 November 2020
